My mother, Mama Ninfa Laurenzo, or as most people referred to her, Mama Ninfa, was an iconic Houston restaurateur.
She was known as “Mama” to all who were blessed enough to know her, whether it was a job, hot meal, a listening ear, or her selfless generosity by fostering courage for those wanting to improve themselves, Ninfa Laurenzo was the catalyst for realized dreams through her support for our young people and their families. She was generous with her time, finances, and spirit of entrepreneurship as she encouraged and inspired countless individuals to pursue their dreams, many of whom are now successful professionals, business owners, executives, and elected officials.
Mama Ninfa dedicated her life to providing a strong future within the Hispanic community in Houston’s East End. She was a founding board member of the Association for the Advancement of Mexican Americans, Board member Houston Hispanic Forum, Board Member of the Houston Metro Authority, named Business Woman of the Year by the National Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and is in the Texas Women’s Hall of Fame. The Ninfa Laurenzo Early Childhood Center in Houston ISD is named in her honor.
The Ninfa Laurenzo Scholarship Fund is a 501(c)3 organization founded in 2017 and has impacted seventy-six (76) students with scholarships since its inception. Mama Ninfa’s belief that education is the basis for a person’s future success is the foundation of the Fund, and with your help we hope to fund 100 scholarships for her 100th birthday.
We are honoring my Mother’s legacy with a yearlong 100th Birthday Commemoration, as our family lauds her dedication to supporting young people through education. The Ninfa Laurenzo Scholarship Fund provides scholarships for deserving high school and college students in the Greater Houston-area.
I am asking for your financial support as we celebrate Mama Ninfa’s 100th Birthday September 19, 2024, at The Revaire as we commemorate and continue to endow this educational legacy in Mama Ninfa’s honor.
